Rightcart.com

Rightcart.com is interesting. These guys seem to be headed down the same road I am currently on.

I am working on Sidesale.com (not live yet), which is similar. A distributed or aggregated e-commerce system.

The funny thing is they are patenting their idea it seems, at least according to their web site.

The idea of implementing mini versions of old systems, such as shopping carts, instant message systems, mail lists managers, etc. is fairly obvious. So, I wonder how the patents will stand up to scrutiny?

I am happy to see the competition, since this validates the idea.

Not that Amazon and others haven’t already tread heavily on this ground before.

This is pretty different from existing solutions in the sense that its setup more like an advertisement banner (atleast from the publisher’s perspective). Also, one really ground breaking thing about this is that now a blog (or something) can actually make some commission off of a referred product rather than just sending a reader off of their site.

    Ryan,

There is no doubt that they are blazing a trail in a technical aspect.

But Amazon, Macromedia and Apple, to name a few, have allowed anyone with a site to earn money by referral. Nothing really new there.

The technique (using an iframe) to provide a more consistent user experience is the unique feature of Rightcart.com, in my opinion.

There are other shopping aggragators out there, though the names ellude me at the moment.

I am certain that Google’s Ad Sense played a role inspiring this type of solution. It sure did in my case with Sidesale.com

I do wish them the best of luck.
